ADR 0005: Monetization

Context

TradeMate has free/MVP functionality, paid tiers, BYOK Pro controls, and Dodo Payments integration. During MVP, functionality can remain available while entitlement gates are evaluated.

Decision

Dodo Payments is the primary billing provider. Stripe remains the standby provider. Entitlement logic stays centralized in tier helpers and middleware, but product routes can be left ungated until the MVP paywall decision is made.

Consequences

The app can ship useful features before final pricing gates are locked, while Settings already exposes billing and BYOK controls. Backend routes should keep the middleware points ready for future gating.

Verification

Billing status, checkout, customer portal, and webhook tests must pass. UI must surface plan state and BYOK provider key controls without exposing secrets.
